Bob McQueeney supports David Caprio

I am writing to urge you to vote for our State Representative, David Caprio this Tuesday, September 14th.

As a summer vacation and winter college community, we are faced with the constant problem of minors and alcohol. We also have suffered unspeakable losses from drunk and irresponsible drivers on our roads. I am a retired State Trooper, who has seen first hand the horrific tragedies that result from these drivers. This year, new laws were passed at the State House to make our roads safer. I want to thank our State Representative, David Caprio, for taking a leadership role to toughen the laws dealing with these issues.

Representative David Caprio was a sponsor of the "Colin Foote Act" which is a measure to suspend or revoke the license, for up to one year, of any individual convicted of multiple moving violations within an 18-month period. The need for this law arose from the recent tragic death of Colin Foote when he was struck and killed by a driver that previously had 27 traffic offenses yet still had a driver's license! Before this law, the Traffic Tribunal did not have the authority to revoke a driver's license.

Representative David Caprio also sponsored legislation to close a loophole in state law dealing with alcohol and minors. The new law makes it illegal for anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 to provide alcohol to a minor. I was amazed that prior to Rep. Caprio's bill, it was NOT illegal for minors to provide alcohol to another minor!

The General Assembly also passed a bill making it a felony for any person to drive under the influence when his or her license is suspended, revoked or canceled as a result of operating under the influence.

These three bills came through the House Judiciary Committee, of which David Caprio is the chairman. His leadership shepherded these bills through the committee and to passage.

Representative David Caprio is the leader we need in the State House. Please join me in voting for David Caprio on Tuesday so he can continue to effectively represent us.

Respectfully yours,
Bob McQueeney
